Jackson County works best when the people running it treat your tax dollars the way you do: carefully, and with something to show for it. That hasn't been the case lately. The property assessment mess left a lot of families staring at bills they couldn't explain, from a county government they had no reason to trust.

I'm Bill Haley, and I'm running for the Jackson County Legislature in District 6 to fix that.

I'm not a politician. I started on a factory floor as a press operator and spent more than thirty years working my way up to running plants. Sixteen years ago I opened my own business here in Jackson County, and I still run it today. I've met payroll, balanced budgets, and answered for every decision I've made, because when it's your business, there's nobody else to blame. County government should answer to you the same way.

Here's where I'll put my attention:

• Fair property assessments you can actually understand

• Public safety and real support for the officers who provide it

• Roads and infrastructure maintained before they turn into expensive failures

• Economic growth that brings jobs and broadens the tax base

• A county budget that's open, honest, and accountable to the people paying for it
